ICQ 6 Soundtrack
Global psy-trance group Infected Mushroom, ranked number 12 globally by DJ Magazine, teamed up with ICQ for the newest version of ICQ 6. "We wanted to give our newest messaging service a whole new spin, and integrate a revolutionary sound system into the ICQ experience" says Ronen Arad ICQ's VP of product and marketing. "For that, we asked Infected Mushroom to help us."
Infected Mushroom has remained a fixture in the global trans scene for the last decade, performing live all over the world. Infected Mushroom's Amit, aka "Duvdev" Duvdevani, and Erez Eizen, say that creating the new sounds for ICQ 6 was a unique and creatively challenging project for them.
Armed with plastic bottles, sticks and live instruments, Infected Mushroom started on the project of creating the sounds for ICQ 6. Sitting in a conference room at ICQ Headquarters, Duvdev explains their strategy: taking everyday sounds and creating a new spin for it. "It was a nice project to take on, I grew up using ICQ, and most people in the music industry rely on ICQ not only for chat, but for file transfers, so it was exciting to be part of ICQ 6."
All-nighters and coffee were a common theme for Infected Mushroom during this project. Hours were spent recording one sound, tweaking it, and running it through different programs to create what ultimately would become the new sounds of ICQ 6.
"Erez and I normally disagree on music, so when we agree on something, that means it'll stick" Says Duvdev. "It's no different with the sounds for ICQ. After a while, we began to notice a pattern in the sounds that ICQ liked, so we created sound families, taking a specific sound, making it more "wet" or "sharp". From those "sound families" ICQ was able to find the perfect sound for the new ICQ version".
In the new soundtrack of ICQ 6, you'll find a lot of ICQ's traditional sounds twisted and spun as well as new progressive sounds added. We hope you enjoy them as much as we've enjoyed the process of choosing them!
