When you select a user on your Contact List, you have the possibility of sending and receiving various messages via the ICQ program. These actions are available through a menu that is activated by clicking on the triangle next to the user's name, or by control-clicking the user's name.

The Add to Ignore/Visible/Invisible actions (at the bottom of the menu) allow you to add the contact to your various privacy lists.
See the Security help page for more information. The rest of the user actions are explained below.

Receive
When you receive an ICQ event from another ICQ user - double-click the flashing icon or choose Receive from the pull down menu.

Message
Instant messages are at the heart of ICQ's feature list. Sending a message is as simple as selecting 'message' from the user menu, entering text and hitting 'send'. The message window opens automatically if you double-click a contact for which you have no unread messages.

URL
ICQ allows you to send Web page address (URL) to a user on your Contact List. After you select the URL action, a message window opens. In the event that you have a browser open to a certain location, the URL address will be automatically entered to your URL message.

File
You can use ICQ to exchange files with your contacts. To initiate a file transfer, either select File from the user actions menu, or drag a file to a contact on your list. ICQ allows you to send multiple files.
