Installing for the first time Double click the installer icon and follow the instructions. The installation program will create an ICQ folder at the location you specify. Upgrading By default, ICQ 3.4 is installed in a folder called "ICQ 3.4". This insures that the installation does not overwrite previous versions of ICQ installed on your Macintosh. If you are upgrading from ICQ for Mac version 2.0 or below, you have the option of importing your old settings for use in the new version. This is done by the ICQ Settings Importer application, which is installed on your Mac alongside the ICQ application. This process leaves your old settings intact, and as long as you do not delete them, you can run the ICQ Settings Importer program and re-import your old settings. In any case, the ICQ installation does not overwrite your account preferences or you Contact List. Those are stored outside the ICQ application folder, inside the System Preferences folder. See the ICQ Folder Structure help topic for more details. Warning: We strongly recommend not to copy the files from the ICQ 3.4 installation into your old ICQ application folder. The ICQ application uses various files that are not compatible between versions. If you move files between folders of two different versions of ICQ, at least one of them is bound not to work. If you want to alternate between several versions of ICQ, make sure each of them is installed in its original folder. Packing List After the installation is completed successfully, you should have a new folder called 'ICQ' on your hard drive. This folder contains several items which make up the ICQ application. ICQ 3.4 - The ICQ Application. ICQ Resources - This file contains most of ICQ's user interface elements - windows, icons, menus etc. Xpcs.shlb, Xprt.shlb - Software libraries required for ICQ's operation libs - A folder with more software libraries that ICQ requires. Again, please note that ICQ needs all these files in their original location for its proper operation. You can move the ICQ folder around as you please, but please do not remove or replace the files in it. |
